Lessons Learned

And welcome back My Ever Curious Readers!

Drawing from my infinite wisdom, I'm going to share some of my worldly knowledge. And this consists of what I learned at the 5K last weekend. <grin>

What lesson did I learn? Well, I learned several in fact.  First is to have fun. I used to be a very anal retentive uptight and competitive person. Then I had kids and realized that I have absolutely no control of most of my situations. So, I mellowed a bit. Now instead of wanting to crush the competition I'd rather laugh with my friends than at them. (Not that I ever DID do that....<starts whistling and walks away quickly>)

And speaking of friends, it's great to have them at these kind of events. You have people to motivate you to train and show up. All kinds of warm fuzzys there my friend. I even had the honor to have my husband do this 5K with me. That made it extra special!

And how about after the race?  Well, I found out you get some great selfies and group shots. Thanks to Facebook I can look back at this time well spent by bettering myself and just having a great time.  I felt great after this race!  And then I played volleyball the next day. And I was rocking it. Right up until the end when my body said I'd cheesed it off with too much exercise and pulled a muscle that has been sidelining me for months. Argh! So now I'm limping and my level of exercise has dropped.

But that is the next lesson. I did do the race. I am getting more active. I know I can do this, especially with the help of my friends and family. So instead of giving up saying I'm too old and my body can't do this, I'm going to get that leg better and be back out there in no time. Maybe I can't be out there saving the world from the zombie hoards as often as I like, but I can do other things. Time to get that freezer book out and start cooking! Which is great since we all know from last week that freezer cooking is The Plan.

Until I hobble back to the computer to enlighten you once again,
